Eurovision – love or hate it

I have to admit, I am not a Eurovision fan and genuinely surprised at what a massive cultural following this annual event now commands. It seems that Generation Z are its most enthusiastic followers, and Eurovision fever is certainly alive and well.

Googling its origins I was amazed to read it was created in 1956 and originally conceived as an experiment to test live television broadcasting across multiple countries. First held in Switzerland with only seven nations competing to now becoming the longest running annual international televised music competition.

Originally a competition being judged by the song entry to now becoming a gigantic extravaganza, with a huge LGBTQ following, including cringe worthy stage acts such as operatic vampires to dancing astronauts. In 1967 the UK won with ‘Puppet on a string’ performed by the brilliant Sandi Shaw, now that was talent and fun – ‘Sandi who’ I hear you cry, whilst probably calling me a silly old fart, that has been said before I will admit. Well, whether you are having a Euro party indoors with family or a meeting with friends and like-minded followers in your local pub, hopefully all dressed appropriately, enjoy.

About Me

I decided to expand this blog, learning and sharing about life’s ups and downs, and the bits in-between. Come on this journey of everything ‘self’ with me, whilst trying to get to grips with having to ‘tick’ the over 60’s box!
