Linnhe Lochside Holidays

Fort William.

Although having lived in the Highlands for eight years, we had never visited this brilliant holiday park. Painstakingly transformed from a World War 11 army village in 1963, into a large peaceful and well looked after site. Still owned by the same family today, you will find well designed terraced gardens, affording excellent views of Loch Eil and the Narrows – this being the channel linking the loch from the town of Fort William.

The owners have planted wildlife friendly species and installed bird and bat boxes. The views all around the site are mesmerising, whether you are watching the tide rushing in, or the surrounding mountains, you will not be disappointed. I’m aware, that not one size fits all, but believe me there is something here for everyone. Whether your interest is fishing from the pebbled, private beach or a slipway providing access to the water for canoes, picnic tables are dotted around, along with two children’s outside play areas.

For tourers there are hard standing level pitches, with excellent seasonal prices, superb grassed areas for tents, chalets, lodges and rental caravans – and a mobile burger bar by the entrance. Well-trained pets are welcome, along with well-behaved owners. The toilet block is adequate for our needs, with free showers, toilets and bath (for a small charge), although at the time of our stay, I felt the facility building was slightly ‘tired’.

There was a friendly welcome from the reception team and the shop sells fishing equipment, camping gear, spare parts and accessories for campers.

An outdoor self-service laundry is available, with an SMS alert system to give advance warning before the end of the cycle (pretty smart eh).

Boat cruises are available from the Fort William pier and no trip to the Highlands is complete without booking an unforgettable trip on the ‘Harry Potter’ steam train, steaming ahead from Fort William to Mallaig, although advance booking is definitely advisable.
