Hello peeps, thought I’d post a short blog letting you know how I have been faring with the biological meds over the past 5 months and I can honestly state that I am a big coward and a whimp, thankfully I only have to inject once every 8 weeks! Well, the good news is that I am now steroid free.
The effect has been incredible and the easing of symptoms began to take effect almost immediately. My quality of life has definitely benefitted with lung function showing a massive improvement. I can now walk several miles without sounding like the long-lost sister of Thomas the Tank Engine. Although biologicals work differently for everyone and may not take effect straight away.
I came to realise pretty quickly that the past years of inactivity are catching up with me. Muscles that once thought they had been permanently retired are now being re-called into active service, that and along with my bathroom scales inconsolably sobbing whenever I pass them have made me realise that I need to take the bull by the horns, bite the bullet and jump in with both feet. Meaning, that I have to get up off my arse and start exercising. This, I have to admit fills me with dread, but at the age of nearly shhh -70 – arghhh don’t say it out loud, if I don’t start now, I will regret it in my dotage years – which I’m sure I don’t have to remind you is years away! No tittering please.
Unfortunately, it seems my hiatus hernia can’t be operated on again. Many exhaustive and horrible tests have confirmed that my whole system is on a go slow, a bit like me. The oesophagus muscles push the food through the valve into the stomach, and as mine only works about ten percent of the time, it would be nigh on impossible to eat any solid foods. So, basically the inside and outside of my body are similar to a sloth. Although I haven’t noticed much difference regarding my many allergies, one step at a time eh. So, for those of you who love ‘Strictly season’ and in the divine words of Craig fab U Lous dahling.
